How Did George Celebrate his Vegas Win? Best of Qatar GP Media Day

A Grand Prix win is special. A one-two is even more memorable. A Grand Prix win and one two in one of the world's most iconic cities? It does not get much better than that!

But this is Formula One, the fastest sport in the world - and attentions have once again turned to the race track, as the paddock arrives in Qatar for the penultimate round of the 2024 F1 season.

Of course, though, there was time to find out how George celebrated his third Grand Prix victory in Sin City last weekend.

"I went out with the team, and celebrated with everyone," said George.

"It was so nice to share those moments with them because Vegas is so tough for everyone with the time zone, so to get such a surprise victory and a dominant weekend really special."

Even in the midst of the party, George's mind was racing. Literally.

"It was a good party, but not a crazy one. Halfway through I did start to think 'I want to do all this again'.

"Qatar is this weekend, I want to win there and be focused on that."

George wasn't the only one celebrating in Las Vegas either, and there was a familiar face hanging around in reception the next morning.

"I saw Max [Verstappen]!" said George.

"It was on the way to the airport at the hotel bar at 9am. I do not think he saw me though. We must have had similar parties but in separate locations!"

While that might be one of George's abiding images from last weekend, for many of the team back at home at Brackley and Brixworth watching on TV, that moment would have come in the immediate aftermath of the race.

As George slowed down on his in-lap after the chequered flag, Lewis pulled alongside, and the two Silver Arrows cruised in formation down the famous Las Vegas strip.

An apt way to mark Mercedes' 60th one-two in F1.

Lewis said: "You saw the images of me driving alongside George. I wanted everyone at the factories to know what they achieved - they will hopefully have that image forever because it means a lot to everyone.

"It was my paying homage to the team moment."

As Lewis embarks on his final two races with our team, there was time for some reflection from the seven-time world champion, too

"Mercedes is like a family, and you are a part of that forever. If you look at their past drivers you are considered part of the team for life.

"In my mind I will always be part of their history, and I can come back and see the museum and know I was a part of the history of this brand.

"All I want is that we give it our absolute all, which I know we will.

"For me, these two races will not define anything for the future, our relationship or our past.

"We have already achieved more than we ever set out to do. It would be great to get a win again, but let's see.

And for what could be achieved in Qatar this weekend?

George said: "We went into the triple-header thinking Qatar would be our best shot, so I am excited for this weekend because I think we will be strong.

"If we are not we will need to understand why. We have learned from Vegas to correlate the good and the bad races, and I think we see some trends."
