Senior Design Engineer - 12 Month FTC

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 12 month Fixed-Term Senior Design Engineer to join our Technology Engineering department, reporting directly into the Technology Engineering Group Leader.

The role is predominantly in Applied Science, which is a business division of the Mercedes F1 team, providing bespoke engineering services to a variety of customers using cutting-edge technical capability. The successful candidate will mainly be responsible for the development of new and current mechanical projects used in a wide variety of engineering projects.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities:

• Create complex mechanical assemblies that support all the functions that we support.

• Work collaboratively with other departments to create clear scopes of work for the projects required.

• Have a broad engineering knowledge of mechanical systems, electromechanical, pneumatics, hydraulics and structural consideration in design.

• Design and develop engineering systems accurately and in a timely manner, appropriate to ease of manufacture and assembly.

• Generating CAD models and detail drawings of engineering systems, jigs, fixtures, etc. to a standard required for internal or external manufacture.

• Maintaining CAD assemblies and updating them clearly as required.

• Assist in coordination of design and manufacturing programmes and with testing and calibration of equipment.

• Generation of innovative, practical ideas for improving the quality and productivity of the design process.

• Lead, guide and mentor other engineers.

• Manage design projects with the assistance of the project engineer and other designers, whilst incorporating other resources such as controls and electronics.

Candidate Profile:

• HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering, with experience in F1, or similar high level engineering industry.

• Experience of Catia V5/3DX on mechanical system design and surfacing design package.

• Experience in leading and mentoring Engineers.

• Excellent communication and collaborative skills to ensure cross departmental integration.

• High attention to detail and the ability to work under limited supervision to tight deadlines.
