Another Special Silverstone: British GP Recap

F1 wins are like London buses. You wait a long time for one, and two come along at once!

From special guests and fan engagement, to Formula 2 success and watching Euro 2024 with a sea of England supporters – the 2024 British Grand Prix really did have it all!

Oh, and of course it rained!

Yabba Dabba Doo It’s a One-Two

The best way to back up a race win on a Sunday? Take pole the following Saturday! George’s reaction to topping the timesheets in Qualifying may have been a little less Fred Flintstone than in Spielberg, but it got the Silverstone Grandstands rocking.

The perfect session was sealed with Lewis locking out the front row, further confirming the progress of W15 in recent weeks.

It marked the first front row lock out for the team since Saudi Arabia 2021, and was Lewis’ 10th front row start at the British Grand Prix.

Kimi Breaks Through in F2

After a couple of difficult races to start the triple-header in Spain and Austria, junior driver Kimi Antonelli bounced back in style to claim his maiden win at Formula 2 level.

Despite the typical British weather, Kimi demonstrated skill beyond his years to win the Sprint race by nearly 10 seconds – setting a fastest lap nearly a second quicker than anyone else in the tricky conditions.

At 17 years and 10 months, Kimi became the second youngest winner of a Formula 2 race in series history.

FAN-tastic

The British Grand Prix is always one of our favourites on the calendar, and that is because of you, the fans!

Numerous activities through the weekend helped bring the team closer to the fans than ever before, from hot laps and special picture frames to QR codes with secret messages and driver cards.

Young superfan Teddy even got the chance to walk out onto the grid with Lewis and George for Thursday afternoon’s fan show on the pit straight.

Uniting the Paddock

Fierce rivals and competitors on track, friends off it. Two weeks ago in Barcelona, several teams - including ourselves - lent a hand to our counterparts at McLaren when their motorhome caught fire over the race weekend.

Two weeks later, McLaren CEO Zak Brown and the team stopped by to present our team with a few small gifts as a sign of their appreciation for our help.

Further proof of the strength of the F1 community in the face of adversity.

Striking Gold at Silverstone

Conditions judged to perfection on track, strategy calls timed to perfection in the pit lane. Lewis’ record-breaking win was achieved on pure pace and speed. It had been the same story for George’s pole position on Saturday.

For the ninth time in 15 years, Brackley and Brixworth could celebrate a home win. The cherry on the British Grand Prix cake for the latter? Mercedes-powered cars led every single lap at Silverstone.

George’s misfortune on Sunday was the only downside, a cruel way to end a weekend that had been otherwise faultless. Two poles, a win, and a further podium in four races for car number 63.

Every reason to be positive looking forward.

England on Penalties!

Watching your home country win the quarter-finals of a major football competition with your mates can be great fun. Now imagine doing that with thousands of other race fans AND the only all-British line-up on the F1 grid?

We were able to share all the highs and lows of England against Switzerland with Lewis, George, and the fan stage on Saturday evening. For the second time that day, we got the result we all wanted.

F1 came home on Sunday… now over to you, football.

Joining the Club at Silverstone

As well as aiming to be the best be on track, we are striving to bring the best possible experience to our paddock guests every weekend.

After successful rollouts of exclusive hospitality experiences in Miami and Las Vegas, we were delighted to launch our inaugural ‘Silverstone Club’ at the weekend, designed to bring VIPs an F1 paddock experience like no other, from right in the heart of the British Grand Prix.

Live music, gourmet food and an exclusive viewing area were all on offer, and we were delighted to provide our world-class VIP hospitality at our home Grand Prix for the first time.
