Driver Announcement: Lewis & George Reactions

I’m sure, just like us, you’re delighted that Lewis and George will be with us until at least 2025!

Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, we confirmed to the world that both drivers will stay at Brackley for the next two years. Lewis and George spoke to the media shortly after the news broke and it’s fair to say, both are pleased.

“There is no place I’d rather be,” Lewis confirmed as he was asked for his immediate reaction. Always one to tease the media, and his fellow competitors, with a spreading smile he added: “You are stuck with me a little bit longer.”

After 82 victories, 78 pole positions, and six World Drivers’ Championships with the team, some felt that may be enough for Lewis. He was quick to dispel that notion. “We have had an incredible journey together. Mercedes has been supporting me since I was 13. Any doubt to continue? No! It’s a tough sport but you put your mind and energy into being the best you can be,” the 38-year-old said.

And what’s in store for the journey ahead? “I truly believe that with this team we can win more world championships. It’s the work we’re doing and the meetings we’ve been having with the whole group back at the factory (that makes me believe). We’re really engaging better than ever before. We’ve all got that confidence in each other and that we’re the best at what we do. Given time, we will get to where we need to be.”

Lewis Hamilton

I want to be fighting for championships. This is what we are motivated to achieve. This is just the beginning.

George Russell

George echoed those sentiments: “We have high aspirations. The team wants to get back to winning ways. I want to be fighting for championships. This is what we are motivated to achieve. This is just the beginning.”

Like Lewis, George has a long-standing relationship with Mercedes. Since the age of 18, he has been a part of the fabric of Brackley. “I’ve been with this team since 2017. I’ve got such a good relationship with Toto and everyone here and we both wanted to continue the relationship. I’m pleased it’s now out in the open and something we don’t need to think about for the next few years,” he said.

A positive way to kick off the Italian Grand Prix weekend then! Our attention now turns to the track. “It’s good to get it all done and we can focus on the racing. We’re all working as hard as we can and all incredibly motivated. I’m enjoying being team-mates with Lewis and we’re both pushing to get Mercedes back to the top. We’re up for the fight, starting this weekend in Monza.”

We couldn’t have put it better ourselves. Let’s get to it.
