‘Immediate Chance To Bounce Back’: Toto Previews Monza

After a challenging weekend in Zandvoort, the team heads to Monza looking to fight towards the front of the F1 grid.

And that’s the thing about F1 double-headers - you get the chance go again straight away.

“It is a quick turnaround, but we have the opportunity to bounce back straight away,” Toto said.

“I am confident we can do so.”

The team arrived on Dutch shores last week looking to replicate the form which had yielded six podiums in a row and three wins from four races before the summer break.

After an encouraging Friday, it was frustrating to leave the Netherlands with just a P7/P8 result.

Toto said: “It was a disappointing weekend in Zandvoort. We did not perform to the level we expected.

“Lewis drove a strong race to recover to the points, but qualifying out of position limited the returns.

“George meanwhile suffered with high degradation and therefore [AF1] did not have the pace to fight for the top-six.

“The team is already working hard analysing all the data to understand what caused this.”

From the dunes of the Dutch coast, to the woodlands of suburban Milan.

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza is always special, and no track has hosted more F1 races in the history of the sport.

In 2024, a slightly revamped circuit will greet the drivers, and the team is excited to get back on the tarmac.

“It is a very different circuit to Zandvoort, and likely even quicker this year with some of the changes they have made,” Toto added.

“We will also need to understand the impact of the track resurfacing that has been carried out.

“Monza is always a fascinating challenge for both teams and drivers, and one we are looking forward to.”

I am sure the fans will be excited to see a new Italian talent on track

The atmosphere at Monza is always special, and the Italian fans are as passionate as any about their racing.

Friday’s FP1 will be memorable for one Italian in particular - our Junior Driver Kimi Antonelli, who is set to drive George’s W15 as part of F1’s rookie session rules.

Toto said: “Kimi has been part of our junior programme since he was 12 so this is an exciting moment for both him and the team.

“I am sure he will enjoy the experience of driving in front of his home crowd, and in turn I am sure they will be excited to see a new Italian talent on track.

“We look forward to seeing Kimi in the W15 on Friday morning and contributing to the team’s start to the weekend.”
