What Happened?
- Lewis and Valtteri lined up first and second on the grid, both on the UltraSoft tyre, and maintained their positions off the start.
- Through the early laps, Lewis started to open up a gap to Valtteri, who was holding off Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.
- Valtteri dived into the pits on lap 15 for a fresh set of Soft tyres. Lewis pitted for Softs on lap 25, emerging in P2 behind the yet-to-stop Sebastian.
- When Sebastian ditched his Softs and moved to Ultras on lap 39, he emerged right behind Valtteri and put the Finn under pressure for second place.
- Valtteri defended brilliantly, but his tyres started to drop off and Sebastian went for a move on lap 66. They made contact at Turn 2, with Valtteri falling to P4 and sustaining wing damage.
- A clash with Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull in the closing stages then dropped Valtteri to P5.
- Out front, Lewis was able to extend his advantage and crossed the line to score his 67th win and sixth at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
