Sutton Trust: Career Insights Day

Welcoming students to Brackley supported by The Sutton Trust.

Back in May, the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team were pleased to welcome 50 year 12 students enrolled in The Sutton Trust’s ‘Pathways to Engineering’ course to our factory in Brackley.

The career insights day formed part of the students’ course, which is supported by our Accelerate 25 partner The Sutton Trust and Liverpool, Cardiff and Warwick universities.

The Sutton Trust works to tackle social mobility issues through improving access to high-quality education and employment opportunities for less privileged students who attend, and have always attended a state-funded, non-fee-paying secondary school or college in the UK. The trust has helped over 50,000 young people so far.

The career insights day with the Team consisted of networking and panel sessions with some of our Team members, giving the eager students the chance to learn and find out more about different routes into F1 and engineering roles.

Throughout their afternoon at the factory, the students, heard from Team members – including our Chief Technical Officer, Mike Elliott – about their personal career journeys and specifics of their job roles, and received some tips and advice on the recruitment process in Formula One and how to stand out. They were also introduced to our Team’s mission and goals.

The Sutton Trust is one of the newest partners of our Accelerate 25 programme and this career insights day was the first of many events in the future to help inspire and guide the engineering talent of the future.
