Skippered by Sir Ben Ainslie, 'Britannia' and its crew will have the chance to become the first British-based team to win the trophy in the event's history.
They are already in somewhat unchartered waters, having become the first team from these shores to reach the final in 60 years.
What is the America's Cup?
First held in 1851 as the 'R.Y.S £100 Cup' by the British Royal Yacht Squadron, the America's Cup is the oldest international sporting competition still in operation.
The first race took place around the Isle of Wight and was won by a schooner yacht called America.
In 1857, the competition was officially renamed after the winning vessel from that inaugural event - and the America's Cup was born.
The rules of the competition state that the racing must take place in summer months to allow for the best possible conditions.
In the northern hemisphere this is between May and October. In the southern hemisphere, this is between November and April.
