Viva Las Vegas! Six Key Moments from An Unforgettable Weekend

They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but we will gladly bring home a one-two in our luggage!

As the dust settles on an incredible weekend for the team in Nevada, we take a look at the moments that made it so very special.

A Glorious Result

Pole position, race victory, and 49 of the 50 laps led. It does not get much better than that.

Coming away from Interlagos three weeks ago feeling as though he could have won, George did everything possible to make sure he saw the chequered flag first in Vegas.

The mark had been laid down the night before, when a bold and clever call to pit in Q3 put George at the back of the queue to make the most of the increased grip levels in the final moments of the session.

It was a decision that helped tip the Qualifying scales firmly in his favour in Sin City, and a fourth career pole position - and third of 2024 - was secured.

After seeing off the early challenge of Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, George and his W15 were in a class of their own, managing the pace to perfection, with enough time in hand to react to any strategy calls and changes behind.

F1 win number three, and almost certainly his best.

LH Shines Bright Under the Lights

While George led from the front, Lewis' journey to the podium was a bit more action-packed, but the seven-time champion was lightning quick on Saturday night around the Strip.

In his charge to P2, Lewis passed both McLarens, Max Verstappen's Red Bull and Carlos Sainz's Ferrari on track, a monumental effort in a car that has been fourth quickest for much of the campaign.

Such was Lewis' pace and W15s tyre management all weekend, that as the laps ticked down, car number 44 was still setting purple laps on his ageing Hard tyres.

Podium number 202 of his F1 career - his first in Las Vegas - means Lewis has now finished in the top three at 36 of the 38 tracks he has raced at in his career.

Only the Buddh International Circuit in India and the Miami International Autodrome have eluded him.

Five-Star Weekend for the Three-Pointed Star

George and Lewis' one-two was the 60th for Mercedes in F1, 70 years on from the very first in our marque's first Grand Prix at Reims in 1954, when Juan Manuel Fangio and Karl Kling came home first and second in their W 196s.

This was also the second one-two for George and Lewis after São Paulo 2022.

The 297th and 298th Mercedes podium in F1 also re-ignited the possibility of reaching three centuries of top three finishes before the end of 2024.

But perhaps the most satisfying stat from the weekend for everyone at Brackley and Brixworth?

In addition to the one-two, W15 topped every session and led every lap around the streets of Vegas.

Stars Out in Sin City

It would not be an F1 Grand Prix in the US without a visit from some of the most recognisable phases on the planet.

We were delighted to welcome a whole host of stars into the team throughout the weekend.

With Seth Rogan and Kevin Hart providing the comic relief in the garage, and Mick Schumacher taking care of hot laps for Gordon Ramsay and newly announced 2025 F1 Academy driver Alba Hurup Larsen, everyone was well catered for this weekend.

There was even time for a quick 'hello' from singer Adele too.

Las Vegas Club

With all the incredible action taking place on track, our hospitality team were hard at work creating an experience for guests like no other off it.

Gourmet food and speciality cocktails were the perfect accompaniment for the ultimate F1 Vegas party, with guests able to enjoy a show car, virtual garage tour powered by Snapdragon and post-race DJ performance.

Those in attendance had the perfect view of Turn Four, meaning they would have been one of the first sets of fans to cheer home George and Lewis after they crossed the line!

LH and the Next Generation

Always keen to inspire and help the next generation of racers into the sport, Lewis was able to make one young fan's night on Thursday when he stopped for a chat with the aspiring racer.

In addition to a signed cap and picture there were some kind parting words: "Work hard, good luck."
