What To Watch Out for in Abu Dhabi

The 2023 Formula 1 season comes to a close in Abu Dhabi and while top spot in the Championship has already been secured, P2 is still up for grabs.

Off the back of a busy Las Vegas GP, the team travels to the UAE looking to finish the season on a high.

Here are five things to look out for this weekend…

The Battle for P2

With one race to go it’s either us or Ferrari for P2 in the Constructors’ Championship.

And while we wish our Scuderia colleagues well, we’ll be pushing as hard as possible to ensure we end the season second in the Championship and looking ahead to 2024.

How close is it? Four points – that’s all that separates the two teams, so whoever finishes higher on the track will most likely come away with P2.

George’s 10th Podium With Mercedes

As the team pushes for P2 in the Constructors’ Championship George could have his own memorable moment if he were to finish in the top three.

A podium-finish for the 25-year-old would be his 10th with Mercedes since joining in 2021 and a high-note to end the year going into 2024.

MB Power

Our colleagues at Brixworth work hard. Very hard. Should a Mercedes-powered car finish in the top 10 this weekend, it will be the 300th consecutive points-scoring race for the engine manufacturer. That is a run which dates back to the 2008 Chinese Grand Prix.

Fred Gets Fit

Lewis and George won’t be the only ones jumping into an F1 car this weekend.

Junior driver Fred Vesti will be taking Lewis’ place in FP1 and here he is getting his seat fitting, ready for Friday’s action.

It Doesn’t Stop There… Post-Season Testing

Just when you thought the driving was over for the year after the Abu Dhabi race, there is one last foray in the W14 with post-season testing.

On Tuesday, Lewis and George will each spend half a day testing while Fred will take the seat in the second car.

For Lewis and George, it will mark the end of their season, while for Fred it will be the conclusion of his busy weekend after appearing in FP1 and racing for the title in F2.
